Who doesn’t love a good campfire? The copious of amounts of smores, the lingering fire smell that sticks on your clothes even though you swear you washed it out four times… At Old Yale, we LOVE a good campfire. We actually cook everything made in the Campfire kitchen over a perfectly crafted campfire everyday. Okay that’s totally not true…BUT we do know how to create a pretty hot fire. Sooo we decided to put together a step by step of the must haves for a perfect campfire. No need to thank us…you can just save us a S’more or two…
Rainy Days in the Fraser Valley
Living in the Fraser Valley, we can be guaranteed of two things, breathtaking views and rain...LOTS of rain. While the occasional cozy rainy day can be refreshing, it quickly becomes old news when it ruins our plans and traps us inside. Lucky for us, we are surrounded by tons of local business & artisans that we can explore to keep ourselves busy on those forsaken wet (and sometimes miserable) days. Not only will you be making the best out of a rainy day, but also helping your community by showing a little local business love... and we’re all about the local love at Old Yale!
Beers Deserved
There are some moments in life where a celebratory cold one is DEFINITELY in order. And no, we’re not just talking about the moments after you summit a huge mountain, we’re also talking about when you finally get around to cleaning out the garage or doing that massive load of laundry! No matter how small the victory, we’re here to tell you that you deserve a beer!
Trails to Blaze: Lindeman Lake
Lindeman Lake is THE perfect summertime hike in the Fraser Valley. And that really says something because there are A LOT of beautiful hikes out this way. But on a hot day, nothing beats it. Here’s why: it’s short (3.4km) but it’s steep (300 meters) so even though it only takes a couple hours it’ll get your heart pumpin’, and when you reach the top you’ll be greeted by a gorgeous turquoise lake surrounded by forest and mountain peaks. In our opinion, nothing is better than a hike that ends in a swim in a beautiful lake in the mountains (even if it is a little chilly!)
A Day Trip to the Chilliwack Sunflower Festival
This festival is one of our favourite parts of Summer in Chilliwack and that’s why we created a beer to celebrate it (our NEW Sunflower Festival Witbier is available now)! There is NOTHING more Summery than these bright, cheery, yellow flowers! The festival boasts acres of beautiful blooming Sunflowers with numerous walkways weaving throughout so you can escape into this beautiful sea of yellow and green. It’s truly magical.
Camping with Craft Beer Tips and Tricks
It’s taken our fair share of mistakes to get to the point of happily enjoying a crisp craft beer while camping. We have stories of shaken-up beer cans exploding in our pack, glass bottles being lugged out 15km, and many, many of our younger years were spent sipping warm beers while camping. So whether you’re planning a weekend of epic backcountry adventures or a weekend of peace and quiet among the trees, we have some tips and tricks to get the most out of your craft beer while camping.
Getaway Series: Hornby Island
Hornby Island is a Northern Gulf Island located off the eastern shore of Vancouver Island, it takes three ferries and the better part of the day to get there from Chilliwack, but TRUST US, it’s worth it. White sandy beaches, aqua-blue coloured sea (YES in BC - we have photos to prove it 😉), local artisan shops littering the winding streets and backroad honour boxes to pick up freshly cut flowers, there’s truly nothing like it. We’ve come to adore this little piece of heaven, escaping there once a Summer when we can, so we’ve put together a list of our favourite spots to explore.
Getaway Series: Tofino
Whether you’re heading to Tofino to surf, storm watch or explore, we’ve put a list together of places that you’ve got to check out. Oh, and obviously, check out our local stockists on the island to pick up some of your favourite Old Yale brews on your way to the coast.

Walking the Vedder River Rotary Trail
If you haven’t heard (where have you been!?) the Vedder River Rotary Trail is a beautiful, relatively flat trail that follows the Vedder River for about 8km (16km round trip) and offers beautiful, scenic views. It’s frequented by walkers, horseback riders, joggers, fishermen, cyclists, and many, many happy doggos!
Kick off Spring With the Best Hikes in the Fraser Valley
Alas, Spring is upon us! Is it just us or can you almost feel yourself defrosting as you step out into that crisp Spring sunshine? Every year, by the time Spring rolls around we are SO ready for longer days and a little sunshine to lift our spirits. And we may be a little biased but DAMN, the Fraser Valley looks real good when a little sun shines down on it. I mean what better place to spend Spring than the most beautiful place in BC!? With towering mountains, thundering rivers, and vast fields the Fraser Valley truly is #yourstoexplore. So let’s dust off our hikin’ boots, shake out our plaids, pick up some 6-packs and get to explorin’!
