Crafting the Perfect Campfire with Old Yale

Who doesn’t love a good campfire? The copious of amounts of smores, the lingering fire smell that sticks on your clothes even though you swear you washed it out four times… At Old Yale, we LOVE a good campfire. We actually cook everything made in the Campfire kitchen over a perfectly crafted campfire everyday. Okay that’s totally not true…BUT we do know how to create a pretty hot fire. Sooo we decided to put together a step by step of the must haves for a perfect campfire. No need to thank us…you can just save us a S’more or two…

STEP ONE

Safety always comes first! When having a campfire, always make sure the fire is contained and supervised at all times. It’s also a good Idea to have a safe way to put out your fire if needed. Fire safety is key so we can keep our forests beautiful and Smokey bear happy.

STEP TWO

Grab everything you need and head out into your backyard. The weather can be super unpredictable this time of year, so always dress for the brisk cold air and more than likely rain and bring layers, lotsa layers! Consider bringing, a waterproof jacket, base layers and other necessary tactical gear. We also have new cozy toques and mittens available on our website to keep you toasty so the fire doesn’t have to do ALL the work…check ‘em out here!

STEP 3

Grab your trusty pocket knife and start carving some tiny kindling…watch your fingers!

STEP 4

Now it’s time for the actual fire making portion of the evening. Quickly channel your inner caveman and start attempting to create a spark with flint and steel.

STEP 5

Nothing?? Not even a little ember? Mmmhm... let’s go ahead repeat number 4 again?

STEP 6

Repeat number 4 approximately another 378 times with complete frustration …it’s okay we can just blame it on the wind?

STEP 7

March right over to your garage, grab and crumple up an entire newspaper and toss it in your fire pit along with those weirdly cut leftover 2x4s you were supposed to get rid of a long time ago.

STEP 8

Grab your BIC lighter and start a fire on your disheveled pile …be careful of your thumb!

STEP 9

Perhaps the best step of all… Reward yourself with some good eats! May we suggest a Hot dog or maybe a S’more? Make sure when cooking your marshmallows or Hot dogs over your your fire, never put them in direct flame and keep them rotating! Also, make sure to pair your Hot Dog with a refreshing Knotty Blonde or a creamy Himalayan Salted Caramel Porter with your S’mores! Doesn’t that sound amazing? It is.

THE FINAL STEP (#10)

Kick back in that adirondack or your favourite cushy camping chair, feel the warmth and listen to that fire crackle. You did it! Cheers!

PRO TIP

Showing off your perfectly crafted fire is half the deal, you know the one you made ONLY with flint and steel. What lighter?? We didn’t see anything.
