Yours to Explore: New Year, New You, New Adventures

All we can say about 2020 is…what the heck was that?! Felt like it would never end but PHEW, we have successfully arrived here in 2021! Andd as we all know, a new year means time to start crackin’ on those New Year’s goals… like finally hiking Mt.Cheam or FINALLY cleaning out the garage that was supposed to be cleaned out last January…

But, if you’re feeling stumped and a little uninspired after that train wreck of a year we just wrapped up, we’ve put together a list of our go to’s to kick off 2021…on a much better foot.

Let’s KICK THINGS OFF WITH AN “EASY” ONE AND refresh some of those go-to dinner spots, IT’S TIME TO BRANCH OUT…

There are sooo many amazing places to eat locally so why not ditch that same old same old chain restaurant and try something new? A few of our current faves are: Bow & Stern, Shandhar Hut, Cultivate Cafe, Garrison Bistro, Major League 2 and Hugos Mexican Kitchen! BUT, if going out to eat isn’t an option, a lot of local restaurants are available for take out or on Skip the Dishes!

Do your Spring Cleaning early this year – late Winter cleaning has a nice ring to it don’t you think?

Think about it; if you start all the cleaning now while the weather is BLAH, you’ll free up all that time in the (hopefully) sunny spring weather! Aaaand once that fridge is cleared of all last years Christmas leftovers, you can reward yourself by stocking it up with some Old Yale Brews.

Take a break from main stream media & Netflix…let’s do some reading instead!

We all know how easy it is to get lost in the scroll from time to time…so let’s get back into some gooood books. Here’s some book suggestions for you beer lovers out there:

  • Quench your own thirst by Jim Koch

  • Brewing Up a Business by Sam Calagione

  • The Craft Beer Revolution by Steve Hardy

  • Beyond the Pale by Ken Grossman

There are apparently a lot of books out there that aren’t about beer, we haven’t read of any of them yet, but we’re told they exist…

Not a reader? Try a podcast or audio book

Now you have no excuse. They literally read the book for you. You just sit, listen, zen and enjoy a beer or two! Some of our current favourite podcasts include: Armchair Expert, Smartless and ANYTHING and everything involving True Crime.

Do a Chilliwack Brewery crawl

New Year new brews! Last year our neighbour’s Farm House came to Chilliwack along with Field House and Brick Layer Brewing in the brand new District 1881! Make sure to check ‘em out!

Test your palette with a new Old Yale beer!

It’s time to shake it up y’all! IPA drinkers put down the hoppy brews and give our Moon Dance Mango Wheat a try. Knotty Blonde Ale lovers, let’s check out our hop-forward Off Trail Pale Ale… better yet, grab a Craft Cooler and give all 4 a try!

Ready, set, Grow!

There’s something soo calming about getting your hands a little dirty in the garden and lucky for you, there’s so many super cute nurseries around town ( hello Minter Gardens…have you seen the adorable cat that hangs around there??). If you don’t have a ton of outdoor space available for your plant friends, try making a mini window sill herb garden!

OYB Pro Tip: Use your old OYB cans as pots for your herb garden! Check out some more OYB gardening tips here.

Appreciate your surroundings… take note of how great your hometown is…

Sometimes we forget to just look around and appreciate the beauty that is our home town. Head outside, take some photos, paint a picture of the mountains, breathe in the fresh air! The Fraser Valley is a pretty beautiful place…let’s keep it that way! Make it a goal for 2021 to pick up at least one piece of trash anytime you go out for a walk or hike so we can give back to our community! Like we’ve said before, little acts of kindess go a loong way!

OYB Pro Tip: Tourism Chilliwack has tons of information on activities available around your community if you’re unsure of what you’re in the mood to do on your days off!
