Happy Earth Day!!!

This year, we’re excited to share some tips to help you go green with OYB!! If you’re as passionate about our beautiful backyard as much as we are, we hope these ideas inspire you to do your part in keeping it as clean as possible!

Here we go!

USE GROWLERS

We encourage you to bring home beer using a Growler! By now, most people have heard of a Growler...we hope! For those of you who haven’t, a Growler is a large air-tight jug of sorts that is used to transport craft beer so that you can enjoy it anywhere you go! They truly are magnificent! Not only do they help save on cans & packaging, but they allow for a fresh craft beer experience straight from the source, giving you the freshest flavour!! Stop by OYB to check it out, we have Growlers available to purchase (or bring your own!) and we carry lots of tasty beers on draft waiting for your next fill.

RECYCLE YOUR CANS

This one is a no-brainer… Recycle your cans people!! If you’re not on this train already, now is the time to jump on.. no seriously. Not only does this help the environment by diverting waste from our local landfills, but it also puts money back into your pocket… Which for us means some extra cash to buy more beers!! There are also plenty of drop-off locations around where all the sorting is done for you (no more sticky hands)!! All you need to do is drop off your bags and pick up your money when it’s ready. How convenient is that?!

BIKE TO OLD YALE BREWING

Riding your bike more often is a great way to reduce air pollution! Not only will biking lower your environmental footprint, but your overall health will improve!! So next time you hit up Old Yale, ride your bike and come enjoy a much deserved beer. We even have bike racks and locks for rent. Oh and your bike NEEDS an Old Yale bell. It's as simple as that. Not only does it look super sharp and show off your love for OYB but it also offers a nice loud "ding ding". Safety first, friends!

RE-PURPOSE YOUR CANS FOR GARDENING

Okay, you officially can’t use the excuse “living in an apartment” as a way to avoid gardening again this year! Did you know that empty beer cans make for a sweet little herb garden!? Just cut off the top of the can, use some pliers to crimp down the top edge so it isn’t sharp, poke a few holes in the bottom, fill the can with some rocks to promote drainage and then add your plant & soil!

RE-USE YOUR PAKTECH HOLDERS

Have you ever finished your pack of beers and wondered “I wish there was something I could do with this perfect Paktech Holder”…? Wonder no more! That secret stack lying around can finally be put to use! The best thing you can do is re-use them. If you’re anything like us and have a variety of single cans hanging out in the fridge, create your own mix-pack with an old holder and take it with you on your next adventure! And if your Paktech mountain is getting too high, don’t worry… they are 100% recyclable and made up of recycled plastics!! Just pop them into your recycling bin and send them on their way.

DONATE YOUR OYB APPAREL WHEN YOU BUY NEW STUFF

Look, we all know that sometimes we need to refresh our OYB swag. When it’s time to upgrade because the old look isn’t doing it for you anymore OR somehow everything shrunk… pass it along instead of throwing it out! As clothing breaks down and sits in landfills, they release toxic greenhouse gasses. When you choose to donate, not only are you helping someone in need of clothing, but you are also saving the environment from a lot of harm.
