Women in Beer: Cheers to the Trailblazers, Innovators, and Brewmasters

This International Women’s Day, we’re raising a glass to the incredible women who are changing the game in the beer industry. From brewmasters to innovators to fearless entrepreneurs, women have always played a vital role in the story of beer—though their contributions haven’t always been in the spotlight. Today, we’re celebrating their talent, tenacity, and passion for craft brewing.

The Herstory of Beer

Did you know that women were some of the original brewers in history? Long before industrial breweries, beer-making was a household craft, often managed by women. Ancient civilizations like the Sumerians even had goddesses dedicated to beer (shoutout to Ninkasi, the Sumerian goddess of brewing). Women were the backbone of brewing culture for centuries, crafting ales and lagers that brought communities together.

Breaking Barriers in Brewing

Fast forward to today, and women are reclaiming their place in the beer world. Across the globe, female brewers and leaders are making waves in an industry that was traditionally male-dominated. Organizations like the Pink Boots Society support and empower women in brewing, while an ever-growing number of women-owned breweries are earning accolades for their innovation and craftsmanship.

Celebrating Women in Beer

Here at Old Yale Brewing, we’re proud to champion the work of women in breweries. From the creative minds behind bold flavors to the teams crafting exceptional menu items, to their efforts in showcasing, promoting and telling our story, women continue to push boundaries and redefine what beer can be and what Old Yale can be.

This International Women’s Day, we invite you to raise a pint of appreciation for the women shaping the future of beer. Try something bold and flavorful (like our Mango Beer or Hot Honey Margarita!) and toast to the creativity and dedication that goes into every pour.
